A.T.D.R.I.P. is the final Akira The Don album. This is the final Akira The Don music video.
And, in the words of DJ Khaled:
It’s a MOOOOOOOVIE!
It was directed and edited by the brilliant Adam Egypt Mortimer, author of last year’s best new comic book Ballistic, currently shooting his debut feature film. We met at Morrisoncon in Vegas last year, and vowed to work together some day. Lately was the perfect project for his techno gothic sensibilities. We shot it in the California desert, by where Trevor lives in Grand Theft Auto V. Adam’s wife Amanda produced the thing, to herculean levels, specially considering the (lack of) budget. Stuart Breton, who’s work you might have seen on Dr Who amongst other things, handled the camera, and the lovely Charlotte handled art and wardrobe and special guest star Hercules from time to time.
(11 month old Hercules actually said his first sentence out in the desert that day. “WHERE YOU BEEN?” he demanded, pointing an accusatory finger as I emerged after an hour’s absence from behind some martian looking skull rocks, painted blue and naked.)
Nina Kate went above and beyond the initial bat-call of duty, playing a fistful of increasingly incredibly attired characters (or was it one? *insert Twilight Zone music), and looking after my little desert lizard son while I was being strapped to a beautiful car and covered with dirt.
Speaking of which, the thing couldn’t have been half as awesome without my dear pal CHASE, AKA CHASEDUDE, who let us use his amazing car, swagged out in the desert in a Gimp mask (designed by Nina Kate, check out her Jane Doe Latex line here it is very splashy) for hours, and got butted in the face with a shotgun by Nina Kate for his trouble.
A teary eyed and heartfelt THANKS YOU GUYS YOU FUCIING RULE to everyone who helped make this beautiful thing. You might remember me talking about it when we shot it few months back. I will look back on it in years to come as one of my fondest ATD memories.
I hope you dig it, brothers and sisters.
