I have no doubt that this is going to be the best sci-fi film ever…

      Better than 2001?!?!

Even MY hopes aren’t that high… and my hopes are circling London on a helacopter…

      @!

…best sci-fi film ever ain’t Akira? Had a chance to watch it again on Blue ray the other month, they re-engineered the sound track a couple of years ago, it’s even more awesome!

I’m not watching the trailer. I’m avoiding all screen shots, interviews, etc. I want this film to work a) as a film and b) as a reimagined pimp my cult classic. I don’t wanna know any more than i do already. Though i have high hopes (sub hela fucking orbital) i’ve suckled the bitter teat of disappointment too many times to pucker up so easy, even for riddley fucking scott.

Actually i reacon Bladerunner may be the best sci-fi film ever. Less elitist than 2001 whist still being so heavily layered it demands full attention, over and over again. And a much better soundtrack. Or Clockwork Orange? Do we still consider it science fiction? Are we now so close to the cruel new world and the invasive mkultra style reprogramming of dear Alex that we just consider it a modern parable and forget it’s actually supposed to be set in the future? And it ALSO has a much better soundtrack than 2001. Don’t get me wrong, i’m a big Ligeti fan myself, but none of his music or anyone else’s was composed for the film. They’re all brilliant, each piece stands entirely on it’s own (they’re pretty much all iconic works, ffs), and it all works beautifully in context, but the way Walter/Wendy Carlos reworks Beethoven to give it context within the twisted future of Alex and his droogs is a work of fucking genius in itself. And i challenge you to name a better original score then Vangelis’s work on Bladerunner Only thing i can think of is Yamashiro’s work on Akira. And thus we come full circle.

Did you know all about the hypersonic effects on the Japanese HD soundtrack from the BD Akira? All explained by Yamashiro or Ohashi or whatever he wants to be called over here:

        Now then.

        Time to die….
