I might have mentioned Crossed before (oh look, I did). It’s about the most horrible comic book I’ve ever read. I remember picking up issue 2 in South London once, and reading it on the train. I literally had to hold the thing away from me when I hit the last page. I haven’t had to do that with anything since I read American Psycho (the rat bit).
Crossed is a story about a bunch of people having to survive The Zombie Apocalypse With A Difference -the difference being, these zombies aren’t slow half wits making grunty noises – they are pure bred evil hate rape machines waving dismembered horse penises blowing up planes and scheming on how bad a thing they can do to a person.
It is brilliantly plotted and artfully rendered. But it is not a pretty read. It is not a fun read. It is not for everyone... but, for good or ill, it is one of a handful of comic booksI have read regularly this past year or so.
And it is about to finish its run. Well, its run as written by Garth Ennis – a new writer takes over for season 2. But in the meanwhile, Bleeding Cool are offering this free, legal read of issue 0. Get on board. Or don’t.
