From the ATD Xmas LP, Saturnalia Superman

“Right now its Christmas Eve, 2013. Hercules is alseep, Wade and Whitey are asleep, and Charlotte is out at CVS buying Christmas supplies with the sweet dregs of our finances. I spent a little time on the balcony earlier, looking out over Los Angeles, contemplating the strange journey that has lead to this peak, perfect, crystal of a moment. A billion lights blinking all at once. One each for the friends I made along the way. I love you all. I thank you all.

I remembered that Christmas song me and Narstie made. I played it on my phone. It was powerful, and true, and I was still pleased with the hihat patterns, even a year later. I picked up the shoe that was holding open the fire escape, walked back into Wade’s apartment, sat at my desk, and lashed together a visual from some footage in my “CANNON DUMP” folder and one of the greatest movies of all time…”

Merry happy to one and all! Check http://www.akirathedon.com/blog for season blogs, photos, and video from ATD’s LA adventures…

Wade and I spent a joyous and fulfilling third full day in Perfect Sound Studios in the Hollywood Hills yesterday. It was a particularly excellent day as not only did we finish all ten of the songs we set out to track, but Le Family Don was supposed to be flying back to The London HellWinter… but we did not. Instead, we rolled the dice, and will be staying out here as long as our visas allow, which is until early February. Ale jaca est.

As far as I was concerned, it wasn’t a particularly hard decision. Every day is beautiful, every day is another adventure. Sunday, for example, was spent out in the desert with a crew of ace fellow creatively inclined meatsacks, shooting a film to accompany one of my new songs, which will be the last ATD release for the foreseeable future. I got strapped to a beautiful car and menaced with a shotgun and dragged around the desert bound in ropes and all sorts. The dragging caused some injury to my arse but such trifles are insignificant in the face of Great Art.

The thing was directed by Adam Egypt, horror movie auteur and author of Ballistic, who I met at Morrisoncon in Vegas last year, along with his wife Amanda, who has the greatest American accent I have ever heard, and who produced our movie to an astoundingly professional and super splashy level on a budget that could barely be described as such. We were blessed with the excellent and very professional DP Stuart Brereton (equipped with Dr Who credits and the ability to bench press a horse and shit), Charlotte aided with set dressing, make up, and planning, and guest stars included Hercules The Don, Chase And His Amazing Car (which you might remember from October’s LA jaunt) and legendary “latex clothing designer, wife, model, actress, mistress of metal tattooed chick” Nina Kate, who played 5 roles and aided my soul in its crossing of The Bridge in the manner of fucking warrior.

Right now its Christmas Eve, 2013. Hercules is asleep, Wade and Whitey are asleep, and Charlotte is out at CVS buying Christmas supplies with the sweet dregs of our finances. I spent a little time on the balcony earlier, looking out over Los Angeles, contemplating the strange journey that has lead to this peak, perfect, crystal of a moment. Christmas fireworks bursting like on the horizon. A billion lights blinking all at once. One each for the friends I made along the way. I love you all. I thank you all.

I ¬†remembered ¬†that Christmas song me and Narstie made. I played it on my phone. It was powerful, and true, and I was still pleased with the hihat patterns, even a year later. I picked up the shoe that was holding open the fire escape, walked back into Wade’s apartment, sat at my desk, and lashed together a visual, from some footage in my “CANNON DUMP” folder and one of the greatest movies of all time. I hit render, cracked open a beer, took a few swigs, took off my clothes, and spent another 20 minutes trying to scrub the blue off. Most of it remained when Wade and Charlotte and Druncle Whitey got back. Also my ass still stung like school in the 20s. I decided to dye my hair.

This time last year we were awaiting the arrival of Hercules. Today he is very much among us, and making his opinions known with increasing volume and eloquence. I always wondered how babies started talking, and it seems that they just start peppering the babble with words and bits of sentences. And overjoyed Wade, upon our return to his Hollywood apartment after leaving our month long Air B & B yesterday was greeted with an exclamation of “Uncle”.

Sweet, but hardly his most shocking exclamation. “What you been doing?” he demanded in a somewhat accusatory tone, after filming wrapped on Sunday, and I returned to the splashy Hummer Limo parked at the side of the desert road, naked and covered in blue paint. “I love you,” he added, then went back to babbling and eating rocks, seemingly oblivious to the difference.

It’s his first Christmas tomorrow. We’ve been invited to spend the day at Uncle Simon White’s, a fellow midlander in Los Angeles, with whom we spent a happy Thanksgiving what feels a space age ago now, towards the start of our California Adventure. That’s as far into the future as our plans go, apart from a rough idea of a Show sometime in late January, and, of course, the Return, in February. That’s 6 (six) weeks in which pretty much anything could happen, and most likely will. Let us rumble. SPLASH.
